Boats that reflect the builder

As an independent builder and my own boss, I have access to designs from many naval architects and designers. This, combined with the time, dedication, and flexibility to make the boat reflect the quality standard that I am known for as well as meet my client's needs and budget has made Schleiff Boatworks incredibly successful in the first couple of years. Bare hull to dockside delivery, and anything in-between, you can expect the highest standards of craftsmanship, top quality materials, and modern methods for a low maintenance classic wooden boat.

ninigret cabin

Ninigret    This 22' outboard powered camp cruiser was designed by John Atkin. Construction is glued plywood lapstrake over sawn white oak frames.  Power is provided by a Yamaha 40hp four stroke outboard mounted in a well. She was built on commission for a client in the northern Chesapeake Bay and was launched on April 12, 2009.

Rescue Minor

Rescue Minor    My version of William Atkin's 1945 design, Rescue Minor, a 19'6'' shallow draft, tunnel stern, diesel launch. She is double planked in okoume plywood and sheathed with fiberglass and epoxy. With her Yanmar engine, she is designed to cruise at 16-18 knots with a fuel consumption of only 0.8 gal/hr.

Coquina under sail

Coquina    NG Herreshoff designed this 16'8'' cat-ketch in 1889.  She is a great example of my desire to build boats that are faithful to their history  and utilize modern technologies to minimize  maintenance time and expense.

Newly designed Chebacco bow

Chabacco: Chabacco is a 26' Phil Bolger design that originally had a flat pram-like transom forward. Unfortunately when I acquired her in 2003, there was major rot in the bow section and rudder. During reconstruction I decided to add the bow as it is now.  This Chabacco is named ''Flying Carpet'' and is my personal boat.

taza stern

Taza: Taza is an 88' former French coast guard boat that has been converted to a personal yacht.  I was hired to perform planking repairs and rebuild her windlass mounts.  During this project, I installed a number of new planks and more than 1600 bronze screws in her hull along with epoxy adhesive.  She was later repainted and is now located in the Chesapeake Bay.

mocking bird

Mocking Bird: A 36' Dick Newick trimaran, Mocking Bird is always a fun boat to work on.  I have completed several small repairs to her paint, hardware, and rigging as well as bottom cleaning and applying antifouling paint.  She is moored in Davis Creek, Virginia.
